Today the first time I’ve dabbled in glaze chemistry! Since the only glazes we have in school are cone 6, and the porcelain I got is cone 10, my professor said my homework was to look up some glaze recipes! Making glazes is surprisingly much more simple than it seems & sounds! Here are the recipes I made today:
1234 Celadon
EPK…10
Flint…30
Custer…40
Whiting…20
Yellow Ochre…2
Temple White
Custer…36Dolomite…19
Whiting…3
EPK…22
Flint…20
Bentonite2%
Making these glazes makes me never want to use a commercial glaze again! It’s a whole other variable that you can control, making for a more unique and personalized finished pot! I won’t be able to fire these at cone 10 until I have enough to fill a kiln but I will definitely be taking a bazillion high qwalihtey photos of those when they are done. Can’t wait to see what sort of green the celadon produces.
Still making pieces for the anagama firing coming up which has been postponed until March because of the crazy snow! Tomorrow when I go to the studio I’ll be uploading some cellphone pics of my stuff & the studio & such :D I work in the studio as a student aide, which is awesome! *privileges & dough*
